World Health Day: Coping with Infertility

World Health Day: Coping with Infertility

Posted on 7.4.17

Every year on April 7th the World Health Organisation mark World Health Day and the theme for 2017 is depression.

At the London Women’s Clinic we understand that undergoing fertility treatment can be a very stressful and emotional experience.  The emotional wellbeing of our patients is important to us so we have a number of ways to help you reduce the stress of your fertility journey.

Fertility Counselling

Finding out that you may struggle to conceive a baby or may need to think about having a family an alternative way can be a difficult realisation.  We are sensitive to the emotions experienced by patients throughout their fertility journey and we offer infertility counselling at any time with the first session free of charge.

We have additional specialist support available should you need to use an egg or sperm donor, or if you require additional genetic testing for a specific condition.  These provide an emotionally safe space to explore your feelings and any lasting implications for you and those close to you.

Support Group

The LWC runs a monthly support group that is open to LWC patients and non-patients who find themselves trying to cope with the demands of fertility treatment.  The informal, lively and warm group is a safe place to share experiences, offer peer support and swap ideas and resources on how to help cope during this time.

Everyone is welcome no matter what stage of treatment they are at and no matter what their specific circumstances. The group is proud to always have a mixture of heterosexual, same sex couples and single women all attending with the same hope of creating their own unique family.  It is realising that you are not alone in this situation which is one of the key elements to the success of the group.

"I have never before attended any sort of support group, mainly because I am rubbish at talking about me.  It really helped me to listen to others share their story and on the train on the way home I felt my feelings were normal.  I also felt slightly less alone and for that I thank you so much."

“The group gives such a support feel.  It is so important in a process that is so full of frustration, tension and sense of failure."
