At London Women’s Clinic, we take a moment to honour an extraordinary chapter in our history as we celebrate the retirement of David Williams OBE, Chair and Director of JD Healthcare Group, and a driving force behind the organisation’s growth over more than two decades.
David’s leadership has been defined not only by strategic insight and business acumen, but by resilience, integrity and an unwavering commitment to people. His contribution has shaped the very foundation of what JD Healthcare and London Women’s Clinic represent today.
From Humble Beginnings to a National Network
Reflecting on his journey, David shares:
It has been an extraordinary journey. Kamal and I bought the first clinic in Harley Street over 20 years ago. The clinic was in a sorry state — the building was run down, the staff were disillusioned and patients had stopped coming. On our very first day, we discovered a huge debt that had not previously been identified. It nearly sank us before the journey began. Within three months, we had no doctors and most of the other staff had left. It was a tough start but we battled through it with a lot of help from friends, some of whom are still part of the organisation today.
Alongside Dr Kamal Ahuja, David helped transform those early challenges into a story of remarkable success.
From those uncertain beginnings, the organisation not only survived but thrived — achieving profitability every year for over two decades. Those profits were reinvested into the business, enabling continuous growth, innovation and expansion. Today, JD Healthcare Group proudly operates more than 20 clinics and associated facilities across the UK.
A Culture Built on People
While the business achievements are significant, it is the people that David speaks most passionately about:
“Probably the greatest joy for me over the years has been to see young people join the organisation in junior capacities and develop into outstanding senior staff members. I will not name you — you know who you are — but I thank you for your efforts in becoming the cornerstones of the business.”
His leadership fostered a culture of growth, mentorship and opportunity — one that continues to define the organisation today.
A Legacy of Clinical Excellence
Under David’s guidance, JD Healthcare and London Women’s Clinic have built a reputation grounded in clinical excellence, supported by strong and sustainable business practices.
Reflecting on this legacy, David adds:
What a wonderful organisation has been created. It is based on clinical excellence directly linked to sound business practice. I will follow JD Healthcare’s progress with great interest and pride as the organisation grows and brings joy to so many future parents. I am enormously proud of what has been achieved and wish each of you happiness and success in the future.
Looking Ahead
David’s decision to retire comes after recent health considerations and a desire to spend more time with family and focus on life closer to his home in South Wales.
While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to shape the organisation for years to come.
We look forward to celebrating David’s remarkable career in the coming months and expressing our gratitude for his immense contribution.
From all of us at London Women’s Clinic and JD Healthcare Group, we extend our heartfelt thanks to David for his vision, leadership and friendship and we wish him every happiness and success in this next chapter.
