A low-cost high-value IVF programme introduced by London Women’s Clinic earlier this year has got off to a flying start. Just four months after the launch of Kind iVF, the first ongoing pregnancies have been announced, with news that all patients in the programme are making progress to embryo transfer and to the freeze-storage of their additional embryos. The result is that fertility patients eligible for Kind iVF receive first class fertility care for less than half of the price of a standard cycle of IVF.
Kind iVF was introduced at LWC clinics to offer an all-inclusive IVF programme with no hidden costs. 'Our aim is to provide a simplified treatment package at a fair price which is affordable and transparent,' says consultant Mr Michael Rimington, Clinical Director of LWC Tunbridge Wells, 'but with no compromise on our patients’ chances of success.'
Kind iVF thus represents a new approach to fertility treatment, where the cost of a full treatment cycle – including medication – is clearly stated at the outset, so giving patients greater peace of mind over costs. Moreover, transparent pricing is in line with what patients and the government prefer, with no hidden treatment extras along the way. For example, the Competition & Markets Authority recently warned: 'Some clinics . . . may not include all the essential elements of treatment that will be needed, or that are likely to be needed. Once these are added in, the price of treatment may be significantly more expensive than the advertised headline price.'
Our eligibility criteria ensure that patients undergoing Kind IVF treatment typically have a less complicated medical history and exhibit a predictable response to treatment. As a result, Kind patients will commonly require minimal extra medication, procedures, and testing., whilst still having access to our cutting edge technology. We are proud to have achieved 75% success rates thus far, markedly above the national average.
And that protocol was just right for one of our first successful patients, Ellie Price and her partner Josef. 'Amazingly for us,' says Ellie, 'the whole process was incredibly stress-free and easy. Having all medication included, arranged and delivered, removed so many of the anxieties that we’d had in our previous IVF treatment elsewhere.' Ellie was one of many patients who benefited from having treatment at two LWC clinics; with the IVF procedure performed in the long-established laboratory in flagship clinic Harley Street, and all routine scans and treatment preparations taking place in a clinic much closer to home at LWC Kent.
Like Ellie, many patients attracted to the Kind iVF programme have had IVF before, and some have been ‘sub-fertile’ for several years before their pregnancy. So it seems that the streamlined programme of treatment with clear up-front costs is a big attraction. As Ellie told us: 'It was so hard to believe that we were getting such outstanding quality of treatment and care for a fraction of the costs of alternative clinics and programme options.'
To maintain a consistent patient population for the Kind iVF programme it’s also necessary that female patients must meet certain eligibility criteria for selection, in terms of age, body weight and ovarian reserve (as evident from a simple blood test). But with those criteria met, patients in the Kind iVF programme can look forward to cost efficient treatment with no compromise on quality – and, with the first results now beginning to emerge, no compromise on the chance of pregnancy and a healthy baby.
