Real Stories - London Women's Clinic

Every family has a story. These are some of ours.

Over 40,000 babies born. Countless journeys — through IVF, egg freezing, donor treatment, surrogacy, reciprocal IVF and beyond. Behind every one of those numbers is a real person, a real decision, and a moment that changed everything.

The stories on this page come from patients who have been where you are now — uncertain, hopeful, sometimes frightened, always brave. They have shared their experiences so that you don't have to navigate yours alone. Whether you're a same-sex couple exploring your options, a single woman considering solo parenthood, someone over 40 who has been told the odds are against you, or anyone in between — there is a story here that speaks to your journey.

Tash & Jo's Story: "You are Mummy's egg, but you were grown inside Mama"

When Tash and Jo first started thinking about having a family, they didn't know where to begin — until a chance conversation at work pointed them towards London Women's Clinic. At our Bristol clinic, the couple discovered shared motherhood, a path that felt instinctively right: Jo's egg, carried by Tash, so that baby Percy would always be part of both of them. From choosing their donor through London Sperm Bank — "like dating profiles, but just the sperm" — to an embryo transfer in Cardiff with their nurse Anna by their side, every step felt personal and supported. "It's like going to see a friend," they say of the clinic. "Your success is their success." Today, Percy is proof that IVF is for anyone who wants to start their journey to having a child.

Kayleigh & Simon's Story: The Embryo that Changed Everything

After failed NHS cycles and IVF treatment abroad, Kayleigh and Simon came to our Harley Street clinic having already been through more than most couples ever have to face. What changed everything was a recommendation to try PGT-A — genetic embryo testing that screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before transfer. The results revealed something that would never have been visible to the naked eye: the embryo graded lower by conventional assessment was actually the chromosomally normal one — the one most likely to result in a healthy pregnancy. Without PGT-A, a different embryo would have been transferred, and the outcome would almost certainly have been another miscarriage. Today, Kayleigh and Simon have their daughter Willow. Their story is for anyone who has been through repeated failure and wondered whether there is something being missed. There might be — and this is why it matters.

Beth & Brad's Story: PGT-M for an Inherited Kidney Condition

When Beth was eighteen, she was treated for kidney disease caused by a dominant gene. Years later, when she and Brad began thinking about starting a family, that diagnosis took on a new dimension — as a carrier, Beth faced a 50% chance of passing the condition on to any child she had. For Beth and Brad, that wasn't a chance they were willing to leave to fate. Treated at our Brentwood clinic, they underwent PGT-M — preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic conditions — which allowed their embryos to be screened before transfer, identifying those unaffected by the gene. Today, they have their son Robert. Their story is for anyone who has received a genetic diagnosis and wondered whether having a healthy baby is still possible. The answer, as Robert proves, is yes.

The realities of freezing your eggs: Kate's story

What does egg freezing actually involve? Kate is 36 and has undergone egg freezing at London Women's Clinic — and she wanted to show you, not just tell you. In this short film, Kate takes you inside the real experience: the scans, the egg collection, and the moments in between that no one usually talks about. If you have ever wondered what egg freezing feels like from the inside — whether it hurts, how long it takes, what the clinic is actually like — Kate's story is the place to start. Honest, warm and genuinely empowering, it is one of the most useful things you can watch if you are thinking about freezing your eggs and want to know what you are actually signing up for.

Anthony & Duncan's Story: Becoming fathers through surrogacy and donor eggs

Can a same-sex male couple have a baby using surrogacy and donor eggs in the UK? Anthony and Duncan's answer is a resounding yes — and their daughter Polly is living proof. Treated at our Harley Street clinic, Anthony and Duncan worked with their close friend as their surrogate and used carefully matched donor eggs from the London Egg Bank to create the embryos that would change their lives forever. Their journey is one of the most searched and least understood paths to parenthood — and one that London Women's Clinic has been pioneering for decades. If you're a same-sex male couple exploring surrogacy, donor eggs or both, their story is the place to start.

Alice & Sarah's story: Reciprocal IVF and the moment both partners became Mum

Reciprocal IVF is one of the most profound ways a same-sex female couple can share the journey to parenthood — one partner providing the eggs, the other carrying the baby, both biologically connected to the child they bring into the world together. For Alice and Sarah, patients at our Bristol and Cardiff clinics, that journey ended exactly as they had hoped. Watch their story — one of love, courage and the family they built together.

Amy's Story: Motherhood at 60

Is it possible to become a mother at 60 using donor eggs and donor sperm? For Amy, the answer is an extraordinary yes. After deciding that double donor IVF was the right path for her, Amy embarked on one of the most emotionally significant decisions of her life — choosing both an egg donor through London Egg Bank and a sperm donor through London Sperm Bank, searching for the qualities that spoke to her: kindness, creativity and strength. What followed was a journey of courage, intuition and hope that ended with Amy becoming a proud mother at almost 60. Her story is one of the most remarkable we have ever had the privilege of sharing.

Ella's Story: The Embryo that Changed Everything

"If she hadn't made that phone call, I would never have known that embryo had a chance..." At 46, having already been through three IVF cycles and preparing to begin donor egg treatment, Ella had almost given up on the idea of becoming a mother using her own eggs. Then an embryologist at London Women's Clinic made a call that changed everything. This is the story of one frozen embryo, a DNA swab sent from overseas, and the four-year-old girl who is now the light of her mother's life — and why advances in genetic embryo testing are making the seemingly impossible possible.

How PGT-A helped one patient create her family

Michelle was 39 when she walked into a London Women's Clinic open day, already certain of one thing: she didn't want to waste time. What followed was two IVF cycles, a devastating first round where no embryos were chromosomally normal, a mosaic result, and an embryo that came back from retesting as something extraordinary — euploid, chromosomally normal, and ready to become her daughter.
