PRELI® Endometrial Assessment for recurrent miscarriage

Experiencing repeated implantation failure or recurrent miscarriage can be incredibly hard and we understand how much you want answers. Now available at LWC Bromley, and coming soon to Guildford and Darlington.

What is a PRELI® endometrial assessment?

PRELI® endometrial assessment is a new investigation that looks at how the lining of your womb responds to progesterone.

Progesterone is the hormone that prepares the womb lining for an embryo to implant, and the timing of this response is important. If the lining responds too slowly or too quickly, it can affect the chances of an embryo implanting and a pregnancy continuing.

PRELI® helps show whether your womb lining is responding as expected, so your consultant can tailor your next steps.

Is a PRELI® Endometrial Assessment right for me?

If you've experienced repeated implantation failure or recurrent miscarriage, PRELI® may help us understand more about what's happening. It's one of several investigations we offer and your consultant will look at your history as a whole to recommend the tests most likely to help you.

If your consultant thinks egg quality, ovarian reserve or embryo quality is more likely to be the main factor, other investigations may be a better place to start. PRELI® also can't be carried out during pregnancy.

What does the PRELI® Endometrial Assessment involve?

PRELI® involves taking a small sample of your womb lining (an endometrial biopsy) at a specific point in your cycle. Here's what to expect, from your first conversation with us to getting your results.

You'll start with a dedicated consultation, in person, by phone or online. Your consultant will explain the process, plan the cycle in which your test will take place, and answer any questions you have. Our nursing team will give you a written plan, confirm your timings, and make sure any screening tests you need are up to date.

Your biopsy is taken 6–10 days after ovulation or after you start progesterone. This can be done in a natural cycle or a medicated cycle. If you're having IVF, the test is carried out in a "mock" cycle that mirrors your planned embryo transfer, so the results reflect your treatment. On the day, you'll also have a blood test to check your progesterone level, and you may have a scan to check your womb lining.

Results are usually available within 3–4 weeks. Your consultant will go through them with you and discuss next steps. PRELI® is an aid to diagnosis, so it's looked at alongside your other investigations. Occasionally, a sample can't be assessed and a repeat biopsy is needed. If this happens, your consultant will talk you through it.

How much does the PRELI® test cost?

The PRELI® Endometrial Assessment currently costs £995. The assessment is designed to provide your clinical team with additional information about your endometrium (the lining of your uterus) as part of your fertility care.

Your consultant will explain whether PRELI® is appropriate for you and how the assessment may fit into your treatment plan. Our team can also talk you through the process, what is included in the £995 cost and any next steps before you decide whether to proceed.

Where can I have the PRELI® Endometrial test?

It is not available at other LWC sites, but if you are a patient at Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Brentwood, Harley Street, London Bridge, Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton or Harrow, your consultant can refer you to Bromley.
