Why get a fertility test?

A female fertility test, or fertility health assessment, will help you to understand your fertility status.  It will help you understand your fertility and your ability to conceive.

Increasingly we are seeing many women attending the clinic for a fertility health assessment so that they can decide whether to delay having a baby until the time is right (often if they are yet to find the right partner) or consider freezing their eggs for the future.  For many women, it is also the first step in deciding whether to have treatment as a single woman with the help of donor sperm.

Whatever situation you are in, a fertility health assessment at the London Women’s Clinic will provide you with the vital information you need to make informed decisions for your future whatever you decide that to be.

What is checked?

Our fertility health assessment test for women includes a pelvic ultrasound scan, blood test and consultation with a fertility specialist. The blood test will measure a hormone known as Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), which will give an idea about your ovarian reserve. The pelvic ultrasound scan will check for any polyps, fibroids, cysts or other problems likely to affect fertility as well as evaluate the Antral Follicle Count to assess your ovarian reserve.

How is it performed?

We conduct an AMH blood test and a pelvic ultrasound scan. The pelvic ultrasound scan is an internal scan of the womb and the ovaries. Although for some women this may be a little uncomfortable it will allow us to get a much better result than with an abdominal scan. The results of these tests will then be ready for a consultation with a fertility specialist. The specialist will confirm your height and weight and discuss your medical history alongside your results to advise you on your fertility status.  The process involves two visits to the clinic and is not overly invasive.

What is included?

A female fertility health assessment at London Women’s Clinic includes:

  • Pelvic ultrasound scan with Antral Follicle Count
  • Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) Blood Test
  • Consultation with a fertility specialist

What's next?

The results of your tests will be discussed in a consultation with a fertility specialist alongside your medical history and lifestyle.  The specialist will advise you on your fertility status as well as provide advice on any changes that may be required to your lifestyle to improve your health and maximise your fertility potential. They will also discuss with you if any future assistance may be needed to help you conceive.

If you do require fertility treatment, London Women's Clinic will tailor an individual plan to give you the very best chance of a pregnancy. You will receive a full, personalised cost of treatment, including the cost of medication after your initial consultation with the fertility specialist.
