While our clinic continues the tradition of excellence established by Nobel Laureate Sir Robert Edwards and Dr. Patrick Steptoe more than 40 years ago, this next chapter is shaped by greater inclusivity, accessibility and personalised care.

An IVF Legacy Rooted in Cambridge  

The story of IVF began in Cambridge. It was here that Sir Robert Edwards, Dr. Patrick Steptoe and Jean Purdy achieved the first-ever IVF success, leading to the birth of Louise Joy Brown. This landmark breakthrough laid the foundation for modern fertility care. 

Dr Edwards later co-founded London Women’s Clinic, establishing a legacy of innovation and compassion that continues to guide our work today. It was also in Cambridge that Dr Kamal Ahuja, now Scientific Director of LWC, began his close friendship with Dr Edwards and Dr Steptoe and recalls his early interactions with Jean Purdy. Dr Edwards also acted as a mentor to Dr Ahuja - an influence that continues to shape and elevate our approach to patient-centred fertility care. 

Our newly opened clinic at 52 Mawson Road, Cambridge, represents the next chapter in this ongoing story.

Over a decade ago, recognising a growing need for donor-assisted fertility treatments, we established two vital resources: London Sperm Bank (founded in 2010) and London Egg Bank (founded in 2013). - Fertility health checks such as hormone testing and pelvic ultrasound scans.

- Advanced IVF treatments, including Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A), which improves the selection of viable embryos, significantly increasing success rates.

Additionally, our egg donation programme, facilitated through the London Egg Bank, offers women over 40 the opportunity to achieve pregnancy with success rates of 50-60%, utilising frozen donor eggs from younger, rigorously screened donors.
